GURRRRRRL Leslia...SHHETTT AAP!

Updated: Dec 22, 2020

I was scrolling on facebook, when I saw the picture of Leslia Miller-Brice with her PLP pin signalling her announcement that she would be seeking election for office on the PLP ticket captioned:

"The best inheritance a parent can give his children is a few minutes of his time each day."

– O. A. Battista

The first thing that came to my mind was GUUURRRRRRRL...SHHHETTT AAPPP! (in my most authentic dragging Bahamian child voice).

I was instantly filled with a sense of indignance. In fact, the unmitigated gall of Leslia to post this caption, as if your father didn’t help to rape and pillage the Bahamian people to get where he is today. Your whole life has been wrapped in privilege and you are talking about “inheritance.”

(sips tea and its unsweet)

These demagogues and future demagogues love playing in the face of the Bahamian people...

However, Doja said it best, “you could play with my p***y but don’t play with my emotions!”

You (Leslia) are playing with my emotions, in fact, our collective emotions - some people who support you, just don’t know it yet!

Some dissenters may say that Leslie Miller significantly helped his constituents who elected him - and maybe he did - but, at what cost and that still does not negate the fact that he is partially responsible for the debt and colossal mess that we have found ourselves in as a “nation.”

In fact, we all bear the responsibility of this mess! Aht, aht, yes I’m talking to you reading this! (Stares at you up and down like a Bahamian mother to a child that is itching for a spanking)

Remember, we are less than $3billion away from bankruptcy as a “nation” and it was Leslie Miller, like countless of other Bahamians who not only enabled Perry Christie’s administration of malfeasance; but, his actions are directly linked to the mismanagement of BPL. A mismanagement which has left us collectively in this current predicament, where we are still experiencing power outages and BPL still owes money to companies like Shell Bahamas.

Not to mention, Leslie Miller while in office made very incendiary, sexist, homophobic and transphobic comments but I digress because it would take too long to deal with level of stupidity which somehow is unmatched to that of the current Speaker of the House, Halson Moultrie!

Anyway back to Leslia, she is not the only legacy progeny to run as a candidate for the PLP. Bradley Roberts' son, Obie Roberts is also taking a prominent position within the PLP.

Seeing this happen, I began to ask myself: with all these progenies taking over, where their parents left off: is anything within this country really going to change?

The most infuriating thing about seeing all of this play out is that the Bahamian electorate seemingly is getting ready to position itself to be f****d again without any lube or condoms.

It's apparent that being penetrated with six inch fingernails has become a favorite pastime of the electorate in this country. (Unless you’re into this kind of BDSM play in the bedroom, this is not a good feeling for both women and men!)

Like, how many times are we going to oscillate between the lesser of two evils?

Indulge me for a moment, if we take a critical look at the leaders of each party, it is clear as day that the current Prime Minister has shown that he is incompetent beyond measure and that there is no plan in place to lead us into the future in a promising position that ensures some level of security for future generations of Bahamians. Yet, scores of Bahamians defend his asinine behaviour as if it is going to make him a better leader.

When we take a look at Brave Davis and his leadership style, and while we may think we know what we are getting with him - do we really? - because another wilfully unprepared and under planned administration is not an option, not for another five years. Also, Bahamians know for a fact that anything coming out Brave’s mouth will most likely not be coherent and have ulterior motives. As much as the PLP doesn’t want to face the reality, they would be better off having Chester Cooper as the leader of the party but no, they are insistent on thinking that Brave somehow has the magic touch. Also, didn’t they promise to have a much more younger slate of candidates, yet somehow we see quite a number of people - (coughs) Leslie Miller - and some other PLP veterans planning to make a return. Not that I oppose all of them returning, but in particular if you did nothing last time chances are you're going to do nothing this time, so sit this one out.

This, then brings me to the only candidate worth going to the polls for Arinthia Komolafe of the DNA. Not only is she educated but she actually understands to a small degree how economies actually work because guess what, she is an economist! Though Komolafe may be a good prospect for leadership, she certainly has her own issues. For instance, no amount of backpedalling can justify her immigration platform which I believe traffics in xenophobic rhetoric and dogwhistles for an exclusive extreme form of nationalism. This rhetoric has been used by the PLP and FNM and certainly by many within the population. However, it only perpetuates not challenges the stigma, prejudice, discrimination towards marginalised groups in The Bahamas.

Komolafe isn’t a feminist and she is conservative in her politics. As much as these facts disappoint me, I know for a fact that she is a considerably far better candidate than both Brave and Minnis. Nevertheless, Bahamians seem hell bent on overlooking her because "women shouldn't be in leadership because they are too emotional." It is through this sexist lens that the electorate continue to drag Komolafe and other women in politics through the proverbial mud while projecting their own hatred and contempt onto them. This kind of commentary is often so illogical and filled with antiquated ideas but GO AWF!!!!!!

Here I sit on the margins of it all, watching as a witness...

It is only now that I’m beginning to understand what James Baldwin meant by being such. I want to help this country to be better, but they will not allow me to or listen to people like myself who want to move the country forward. Therefore, I must be a witness - a witness to their demise, downfall and possibly rising or revolution! I wish I could say more but I’m genuinely exhausted from the confounding levels of idiocy and coonery within this country.

Leslia you ain’ hear me ey…

GUURRRLLLL SHHHHHETTTTT APPPP!
